Jamestown: Economic opportunity (gold and land)
Massachusetts: Freedom to set up their own religious community and enforce their own form of religion on others
Maryland Freedom for Catholics to worship
Pennsylvania William Penn was granted a large land tract by the king
New York The Dutch had the farm land. It looked good. The English took it because the Dutch couldn't defend themselves.
Georgia: Many of the earlier english colonists were convicts who were shipped there against their will.

Many other colonists came to America as indentured servants and to escape the debts that they had inherited or spouses that had grown weary of them.

Many groups, like the Pilgrims, left Europe to be able to practice their religion freely and openly. Others, like the settlers of many Virigina communities, were looking at America as an opportunity to make money through trade.

Religious freedom, the chance to escape the class system in Europe with the chance to start over again in a whole New World.

Sorry for the delay...I've been traveling! I'm sure you have all your answers by now, but I would venture to say the reasons for Colonists coming to America were the desire to explore, desire for freedom, opportunities for a settling a new life, unchartered land they could claim as their own, and prosperity. Hope this helps.

Some colonists came to America because they wanted to own their own land, and weren't able to in Europe due to low supply, compared to America, and high demand.

Some colonists came to America for religious freedom while others came to America as merchants for trade.
