I was mistaken, it is actually y/x instead of x/y.

The slope is the rise over run of a line. Or in an xy coordinate system it would be x/y. The intercept is where the line will cross the y axis. The equation for a line is y=mx+b where m is the slope and b is the y intercept.

In a real world example the slope could represent the rate at which you make money over time with time on the x axis and money on the y axis, where the line crosses the y intercept is how much money you started with. Hope this helps.
