The Tajmahal (aka Taj) was commissioned by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan as a mausoleum for his favorite wife, Mumtaz Mahal who was said to have died while giving birth to her 14th child. In terms of the designers and builders there were many different architects and skilled trades people who put their efforts into this large and detailed project. In all there were 37 men who were the center of the building and some guess there where 20,000 plus laborers involved in the construction. Hope this helps!
