Thank you so much! This helps a lot! :)

A+B=10.6
A+C=8.5
B+C=6.1

first eqn: A=10.6-B
third eqn: C=6.1-B

Substitute A and C from first and third equation into the Second Equation :
10.6-B+6.1-B=8.5
16.7-2B=8.5
8.2=2B
B=4.1

Now plug B=4.1 into the first equation:

A+4.1=10.6
A=6.5

Now plug in A=6.5 into equation 2 and solve for C:

6.5+C=8.5
C=2

A=6.5
B=4.1
C=2

You can then plug these back into any of the original first three equations to make sure the equate: ie. 6.5+4.1=10.6

Add A+B+C to get the second part of the answer, 6.5+4.1+2 = 12.6

Let me know if this makes sense and if you have any other questions.

This makes so much more sense. I will show you how to solve this problem in an hour or so. I have to run out and I will do it when I get back.

I'm so sorry, I forgot to say b+C=6.1

The issue that I am having with this question is that you have 3 variables and only two equations. Normally in these types of algebra problems you would use the substitution method. Ie you would solve for one variable in one of the equations and substitute it in the other equation. You would then have one variable to solve for. Then you replace the other variable in to solve for the other variable.

In this particular question. You could make A anything and then make b and c equate to equall the 10.6 and 8.5. For example if you call A = 8 then B would be 2.6 and C would be .5. Does this make sense? That is why I asked the question of what you are working on in algebra.
