Does anyone know why so much of the book Fast Food Nation takes place in Colorado? What did you think of the book, I thought it was interesting.

Schlosser explains in the introduction why he chose Colorado. From memory, I think he says that it is a microcosm of the rest of the States in the changes that have affected it since fast food took off in the States. Also it is surrounded by farming, and then there's the whole metaphor of the mountain...

There are so many food processing plants in Colorado so it provides a good backdrop for the book. I found the book to be shocking and have to think about the food that passes my lips. It reminds me of learning about how chickens develop when I was in elementary school...I couldn't eat eggs for years. Have you finished the book? What did you think about the whole thing. I wonder how this is allowed to continue when there are agencies responsible for overseeing the processing of the food we eat?

I believe it is the fact that there are so many meat processing plants in the Colorado area. This makes it a great place to provide case studies.
