Also, the endoplasmic reticulum membrane is continuous with the nuclear envelope (the membrane surrounding the nucleus of the cell). So the nuclear membrane and the ER are, in effect, the same membrane.

It is my understanding that the Endoplasmic Reticulum is a series of membranes in itself and that it helps in synthesizing membranes for
cells of all types.
